I think for the money their are better cars... Unless you are driving on the Nuringburg ring a lot...

Thanks for the input, I wanted to hear from someone who actually owned one. If you think of anything else, post it up.Leafy wrote:I was asked to join this thread and share my opinion, since I own one, I guess it's warranted. :thumbleft:
The SS/SC is an interesting car that produces mixed feelings, with crappy GM build quality and an engine to die for. I dynoed the car stock at 213hp and 197lb Ft of Torque 2 years ago, and it's Lightning quick for a daily driver.
This is what I consider to be the deciding factors if I were to do it all over again.
1) FWD sucks when it comes to putting down Horsepower. Are you going to be happy with 300hp when you can't put any of that down on the street? With 213+ at the wheels, I have traction issues. I couldn't imagine how bad it would be with any more power.
2) The Eaton M62 Blower is a heatbag. In my opinion it's the reason you don't see many SS/SC's pushing 300 at the wheels safely.
You can get a larger heat exchanger to combat the heat, but ultimately the SS/TC would hit that mark with a boost controller and possibly larger injectors, without the massive heat because of the air to air intercooler, larger than the one you find in the SC's intake. I would wait for the TC if you really want to make reliable power.
3) GM loves to void warranty, so expect that even on minimal modifications. I can't say I'm ever going to buy a new GM car because of their substandard quality issues in interior trim pieces, etc.
If you have any more questions, let me know, I'm at work and pressed for time, so this is only a few things I could think of off the top of my head. :thumbleft:

Oh I know there are Cobalt posers. There are just a lot less of them around here. The Bay Area is all about Japanese cars, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting 20 of them. Simple fact of the matter is I just don't like the 350Z that much, definitely not enough to throw down the cash for one.crzyone wrote:So there are too many 350z posers, but not cobalt ss posers? You will get them with any car you buy. Its even worse in Canada, most of the SS cobalts running around are the non supercharged ones. The supercharger is an option on the SS here....Fastback86 wrote:True dat, though I feel about the same about the 350Z as I do about the STi. Way too many posers. The 240SX is the epitome of the ricer car around here. I'd love an old 240Z, but I'm tired of constantly having to fix shit on old cars. I prefer RWD too, but I'm willing to compromise.crzyone wrote:You can buy a used 350z as cheap as $15k on autotrader.com I think they are a big nicer than a cobalt ss and get decent fuel economy.
I prefer RWD myself, a 240 would be a nice car as well, and the sky is the limit for aftermarket parts.

Believe me, I'd like to. Simple fact of the matter is that I don't have anywhere to keep 2 cars, and even if I did, I can afford one car, not two, especially considering the Fiero's propensity for breaking down. Given that I'd be giving up the Fiero, I don't want a slow-ass POS, even if it does get me from point A to B if I have the option of getting something better.p8ntman442 wrote:Guys, I drive 100 miles to work and back a day. Thats 500 miles a week commute. I get 33 mpg in my fiances 98 purple ford escort 4 door ls, thats the 2.0 sohc auto. I also get 25 mpg in my 93 pos passat, that cost me a grand to get on the road.
If your worried about gas prices, shouldnt you consider not dropping 20k on a new car. Get a beater, and have multiple vehicles. I laugh at my coworker who has a 500/mo truck payment, and spends $125/week on gas. Plus insurance, he is basically working for rent and truck.
Buy a nice used car with decent mileage, and pocket the 10k you save. when gas hits 5$ you can pull out your fat wad and ante up.

I considered BMWs before I got into Fiero's, but a BMW shop owner told me straight up that I'd go broke just buying the parts to fix the damn things.p8ntman442 wrote:yeah and the m3 will get you blown.THE PUNISHER wrote:I beat a friends SC'd cobalt ss from a 30 roll (to 108mph) in the Lt1 caprice wagon.

Why not a used Corvette? I can't believe how cheap you can pick one up in the States...
This is a hot car for $19k. Tons of aftermarket and the LSX gets decent fuel economy. Plus you can take it to track days and not be embarassed.
Nice vette
This one is just an example but there are a ton for $15-20k that look like great cars.

HAHAHAH! The tone of utter contempt/disgust has me laughing over here. I drove one of the Calibers when my mom rented one - it looks better in person, but yeah the interior struck me as cheap as compacted dogshit held together with crystalized cat piss. I also didn't like the auto selector being part of the dash - it looks retarded IMO. The doors must weigh 25 lbs - they felt weightless in my hands and made a not so satisfying tin can clattering noise when I shut it - I couldn't imagine surviving being t-boned after dealing with the tank armor doors on the Fiero.Fastback86 wrote:See, I looked at the SRT-4 a while back, and I wasn't impressed. The Caliber is ugly as shit, so it's out. The old SRT-4 looked better (though it still looked like a wimpy little Neon that chicks drive), but it was cheap as shit. I really hate Dodge interiors, and the cheap plastic shift knob that was spit-shined up to look like billet aluminum really pissed me off.84fierotrevor wrote:05 srt-4
I think it's CVT too... I noticed that the rpms would come up and hold for a little bit. The wierd part was when I tried to floor it, it'd come up to 6 grand... and stay there, neither shifting OR accelerating at any rate that I could tell. It was a pretty wierd sensation and took all the "go" out of trying to haul ass. I hope the SRT-4 version is nothing like it.

The new SRT-4 is a regular manual transmission, FWD only. The AWD CVT drivetrain was not strong engough to be reliable.Blue Shift wrote: I think it's CVT too... How about the new Hyundai Genesis? Looks like a car worth waiting for.

They had that concept at the LA Autoshow (although for some reason I thought they called it the Renesis). Even though it will probably change some, I really liked the styling of it.crzyone wrote:The new SRT-4 is a regular manual transmission, FWD only. Haha... man, LT1 B-bodies are NO JOKE... With peak torque off idle and peak power over 5000 RPM, the untuned runner concept works pretty darn well.
A few months ago my dad got a screaming deal on a '94 9C1 Caprice and bought with intent to flip. It has a couple of issues which we're straightening out. I was driving my dad and uncle back from picking up some plywood boxes my uncle bought and was pulling onto a main road from a side road at a stop light. The roads were a little wet, but not bad. I saw a hole in traffic and punched it...
Dam if that behemoth that's 4300 lbs on the curb, carrying three grown men and and trunk full of plywood boxes didn't break loose and get sideways...
