Got the new 3" exhaust welded up, everythings nice and straight. I put the glasspacks so that the fins face away from the flow, I hope thats correct?

Image

The we got the inlet flange welded up. Thank god I was able to tap the holes out, now I dont need to weld in studs, which means I dont have to cut the trunk to mount the turbo.

Image

After that was done I could mount the Y, pretty nice support for the turbo as well.

Image

And the turbo in its permanent location.

Image

Heres the oil drain issue, its a tight fit, looks more open in this picture than what there really is. I should make out OK though.

Image

And just an overall shot of the engine as to where Im at right now. This originally started out as just the turbo upgrade - but as I had everything apart, I figured now was a good time as any to rebuild the top end and clean things up a little as well as adding a few parts.

Dont mind the brake line, its just there so its oult of my way while I work ;)

Image

I cant wait to get it back on the road, shouldnt be too much longer yet.

I have to find a -3AN female to -4AN male 90* adaptor, and I just cant find one.

That's the way for loud but less restriction. If you turn it around, it will be loud, but not as loud as now, and you will lose power from your rpm of peak torque on up to redline, but the basic design of the muffler itself is inherently flawed.

Thats what I figured, but I imagine that reversing them probably wouldnt quiet it down enough to really make a difference.

I have about 8" left, maybe less, to go straight up before I need to turn to meet the turbo. Im wondering if there is something, anything, that I can put there to help the noise control

trust me dude, it won't be that loud. I am running nothing but a 3 inch open downpipe. Its not loud at all. The turbo keeps thing quiet till the open dump wastegate cracks open.

I've got a 3" inline spiral muffler, and a full size Spintech case muffler, and it is still louder than I'd like. To each his own, it'd be much too loud for me.

Well, what options do I have here? I've got 8" to put something, do they make glasspacks that short?

My DP is 2.5", so that might help a little too.

Why didn't you think of that before you built the new exhaust? I told you before that IMO it'd be too loud. There isn't anything you can do now, besides redoing it.

You could just put a muffler in there the way Blue Shift and I did it on our 3.4 DOHC swaps.

The GMC Syclone/Typhoon used NO muffling at all, only a resonance thing. You might try an expansion chamber. Also, FLOWMASTER makes a resonance thing for the 96-02 V6 Camaros that you should investigate. It's rather small, but it changes the sound of that kit.

Just bolt it together and run it. If it's too loud, THEN make changes.

No engine swap or other major build goes together for good the first time.

It won't be too loud. I guess aaron was hoping for his to be as quiet as a caddy?

With those bullet mufflers or whatever and going through the turbo it won't be too loud. trust me. That is unless you want it to be as quiet as a library

Yeahm I tried calling FlowMaster's tech line - it doesnt work - go figure.

Im just going to throw on a 6" flex pipe, and it should be fine. I dont want it to be annoying, but I dont want it as quiet as a library either.

Found some tips, 3" in, dual 3.5" out - $120 shipped - ouch :cussing:

The resonated tips don't really do anything. I never noticed a difference with them on vs off. I had the yellow monza tips. Rusted to hell in 3 years.

Good to know, I'd been idly considering the monzas for a while now.
