Casually looking: 88 Fiero (Any trim, any condition)

Post by Aaron »

I am really getting interested in finally fixing my 88GT after the crash. I fucked up the front end pretty good. To the point that it pushed my driver's door back into my rear clip/quarter panel, broke the windshield, etc. I have 3 options:

1) Buy a clean, good condition 88GT, and swap the 3.4 turbo into it. Cost $3k for the new car, gain about $1k from parting mine out.
2) Buy a shitty 88 coupeshit, and use it for its straight frame, rebuilding my car with all of the good parts still on mine. Cost $1k and a lot of work.
3) I have a 87 frame, that I could cut off the front half and weld it onto my car. Cost $500, but also a lot of work.

I'm not sure I like option 3, just because a home-welded frame doesn't sound like the best option for such a powerful car. Option 2 is a metric shit-ton of work. Option 1 will cost the most.

So, any opinions? Also, anyone have any 88 Fiero that they'd consider selling?

I want like $4k for mine, but I don't think I really want to sell it. Why not put the 88 cradle in the 87 chassis? Then do the 88 brake swap onto the 87 chassis. 84-87 front with an 88 cradle is really popular and not terrible to do. Its in effect the same as lopping the front off of both cars.

$4k is more than I'm willing to spend, regardless of the condition. I'd like 2, but may stretch that to 3 if the body/interior is perfect.

I want the 88 suspension. I've got the money, there's no reason not to.

Having driven both, I think the '88 front suspension is definitely superior.

It absolutely is, I've driven both as well, but the idea of lopping the front end off the 87 and putting it on the 88 sounds like way too much work.

Because the front suspension is the best part about an 88..... Only retards waste an 88 cradle / rear suspension in an earlier model.

Sounds like more then just front end damage, the thing sounds like the chassis is twisted.

Unless your a purist and want an 88 GT Vin, just get a nice rust free coupe, you can get those dirt cheap rust free. I picked up my 88 T-Top coupe that i turned into a GT for 300.

Sure it's a little more work, but you get to strip it down and see exactly what you got and can paint shit up as necessary.

I'm all for that, but I'm having a helluva time finding an 88 of any condition. Add to it that I want a semi rust free frame, no accident car, preferably within a few hundred miles, and I haven't seen any.

Isn't that the truth, I had to go all the way to orlando FL for my T-Top, Massachusetts for my black 88 GT and New Hampshire for fierogt28's 88.

Of course if you had no interest or no money, your next door neighbor would have one for 5 dollars...

A bit more money but low mileage

Maybe worth shipping?

I think a WTB ad on the other site is your best bet, just need someone to post it for you. Someone in this economy must need to dump their fiero.

Both much more than I'm looking to spend. I'd spend that much for a nice GT, but not for a notchy. If I'm going to buy a notchback, it better be under $1000, preferably under 500. Thanks for looking though!

I hate to say it but it looks like fiero prices are going up, or people are demanding more for them.

If you just do a search for 88 fieros on auto trader you get a lot of results, but only 2 with a $4k price cap.

I don't think you will find much for what you are willing to spend.

Here ya go, under $1000, this is the condition you can expect...

That car is like perfect for what I'm looking for, but $750? Goddamn! Not to mention I'd have to get it here.

But I may ask him about it.

Leaky windshield could mean rust around the a-pillars and front though. I got one car that had some interior water damage, the frame around the windshield rusted out so bad I could put my fingers right through it.

Asking prices do seem to be going up, I got my Formula for $300 needed only a fuel pump, Indy for $100, beater for $500. That was only two years ago, now they're up in the 3k range around here.

I am also very interested in base, or Formulas, so long as they are 88s. 4 cylinder, V6, auto, stick, I don't care, tell me what you've got!
