Does the chassis shop make stainless 304 or 321 doughnuts..? I didn't think they did. The steel pair that I used in the past oxidized in quick order.
I personally would have tried doing a 3+1 configuration that weighed the same or close to same. The header collector looks like something from Dr. Seuss. Edit: I just checked and they only sell mild steel. That won't work on a Ferrari.
I'd say there's some substantial gains to be had from a proper set of headers.
The stock 3-1 manifolds don't look any better than something GM might build for a Caddy, and are probably built that way to keep the catalysts as close to the exhaust ports as possible.
I don't know where he got his catalysts, but they could be from a Mercedes. I don't think he's posted photos of the catalysts as they come out of the box. If he's in touch with F1 suppliers for the surface treatments he might know some European Tier 1 suppliers to get the raw catalyst before is has the Merc hardware welded to it... that way he wouldn't have to cut anything off.
The eccentric cones at each end of the cats are darned impressive for being hand built.
Those big band style clamps is how they attach on some turbo benzes, though I haven't worked on one in a long time. I don't know that for a fact, but that was my speculation as to why he went with that collector was with the catalyst in mind.

He starts with bare catalysts... just the monolith in a tube (looks like a bloody 6 inch tube) and welds up some pretty wild offset conical ends with odd entry and exit angles. They may also be used on Mercs, but he gets them without the Merc ends on them.

I was looking at this pic it looks like something off the shelf in the CAD picture, I didn't realize he was "making" them, it really doesn't matter what they did or didn't come off of, just looked vaguely familiar.

Only so many ways to skin a cat... I'm sure the Merc units look very similar. For all we know it could be the same catalysts as Merc V12's use--that would make sense, right? Need to put a cat on a 500 HP V12? Find some that are already used on 500 HP V12's... He's just in touch with the parts suppliers that get him the naked unit. (that sounds pretty kinky)
