Thanks Howard.
I got a datalog to share of the 72. Its a tad laggier but I can tune it better to bring boost in sooner. Its about 500 rpm slower or so which isnt terrible.
67mm on top. 72mm on bottom

Re: lz9 3900 V6 buildup
Carnage.
Went to fire it up the other day to take around the block. Heard a loud bang and then subsequent bangs while cranking. I wasnt sure what it was until I pulled the engine.
I thought maybe a rod bolt came loose or something as it was dependent on rotation.
I pulled the engine, set up the starter on it and applied power. The starter was making noise each time the gap in the flywheel came around as the gear disengaged and engaged.
I ordered a new steel flywheel from autozone for 65 bucks. A new aluminum one is about 400 shipped. I'll play around later and see if I can reinstall a new ring gear on this aluminum flywheel.

Do you know what could have caused that?

That's really F'in weird on a unit that new. How does the starter gear look? Can you look at the root clearance at the starter mesh? The most likely cause this soon in the life of the part is that the starter isn't correctly shimmed.
I wonder if they snagged a Pioneer ring gear or made their own. You could try a Pioneer ring gear.

Bummer. How does the gear on the starter look? Did it ever feel like it was kind of kicking back when cranking over?

Starter appears to mesh well. Starter teeth look good. No idea why this happened but it did. Its a relatively easy fix
