for now, the main objective was to use it as an aid, so that I can attempt to digitally prototype parts faster. I think as I get the scanner setup better, the results of the scan will be improved. here is a scan of an LZx engine block corner, which could be helpful for determining interference points for my alternator mount,
one of the things I'm working on is a workstation with a turntable that I can use for making scans, so far, I've built the turntable and base, next step will be to setup a mount for the scanner, and a properly lighted backdrop, which should hopefully improve the quality of the scans.

still learning to refine the scans to something slightly more useful, it looks like mixed modeling may be an option, but I need to get my scan process cleaned up first.

Re: CAD Stuff
I've been revisiting the idea of using my 3D scanner for more than just a paperweight, so I imported a scan into OnShape, and began messing around, unfortunately, I'm having trouble figuring out how to align the scan data in some kind of useful manner, I would prefer to "snap" the scan data to an existing plane, rather than dealing with it in some kind of it's own spatial system. If anyone has any guidance, or knows of a good tutorial, I would love to hear it.

Re: CAD Stuff
Most scan softwares have the ability to align the scan to the default axis before you clenaup and export, at least the two softwares I used did.

Re: CAD Stuff
the particular scanner I'm using is VERY cheap, and the software is very lame, I think I'm going to spring for an Einstar in the near future, unfortunately, that will also require me to upgrade my laptop, as my graphics card isn't quite up to their requirements.FieroWanaBe1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:29 am Most scan softwares have the ability to align the scan to the default axis before you clenaup and export, at least the two softwares I used did.

You can also open scans in meshlab to further manipulate them.
Ive been able to rotate, scale and trim anfew in meshlab. But im not a very experienced meshlab user.
