Need a parts source for boat anchor dowel pins
Can someone tell me where I can get 2.8 bellhousing dowel pins from?
Thanks in advance. I need two of them.

Yeah, NAPA probably has them, I think they're one of those "hard to find" things that Dorman/Motormite/HELP! makes replacements for.SappySE107 wrote:Same type as the head pins right? Hollow for a bolt to go through. I got the head pins at napa. If you have 1, take it in. They can probably look it up though as thats what they did for me.

It's part of doing an SBC swap.
You pull the dowel pins out of the BA block and press them into the bellhousing adapter plate. The SBC dowels locate the adapter plate and the Adapter dowels locate the tranny.
Make sense?
I'm doing an 85 gt with an 88 rear cradle and a ZZ4.
If things go my way I might be hopping on the Solstice bandwagon shortly too:

It would suck to lose the warranty on a $14,000 engine because it ends up in a Solstice...MNFatz wrote:If things go my way I might be hopping on the Solstice bandwagon shortly too:

Grab them with a pair of vice grips. Clamp them so the round part of the jaw is grabbing the round part of the dowel and the vice grips are parallel to the bell housing mounting surface. IE, don't try to grab them with the vice grips parallel to the crank center line.MNFatz wrote:I tried to pull the old ones out with slide hammer, but I cant get a good hook on the back of the pin.
Once you get a good grip on it start rotating the dowel back and forth and work it out. It'll come out. You'll probably put some gouges in them from the vice grips so clean them up with a belt sander / sandpaper / whatever's handy before they go back in.
Good luck.

I've had ones so stubborn that I had to put a bolt through, weld the head to the side of the dowel that sticks out, and HAMMER the bolt from the other side to get the dowel out. Needless to say, the dowel could not be reused.Chase Race wrote:Grab them with a pair of vice grips.
