Doug Chase: Build these and they will come...
Doug,
You should build headers in this style:
For the 96-97 3.4L dohc using this flange:
Available here:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/GM-6-Cyl-DOHC-Header ... dZViewItem
Thats all.
PS: as a premeptive attack, Aaron i already know about long tube headers and so on. i need a set like this for turbo applications.
Oh and no one say "tubular headers dont help turbos" cause they do.[/img]

Who is going to buy them, swap people or Lumina / GTP people?
What about a Y-pipe? Are people in need of these or is that something that people would be more willing to fab on their own to fit their unique requirements?
And most importantly, how much do you think I could sell them for? I'd probably need to sell at least 10 sets at around $600 a set to make it worth my time. Do you think this is possible?

Anyone one of those folks who is swapping in a dohc be it any car.
The crossover would be vehicle specific even for the fiero there is a bunch of different trannies to get in the way so i would think people would need to fab there own.
Maybe even curve the collectors in a little to save space. Like so:
WCF sells 3.8 and 2.8-3.4 pushrod sets for $300-$400 a set in steel and $700-$1000 in SS including crossover.
BUT they dont sell dohc headers!!!

Doug, I will all but guarantee I'd buy at least one set, eventually 2. I will need 91-95 flanges, seen here for $36 (Holy cheap batman!) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-6-Cyl ... enameZWD1V
You will not be able to sell them to the W-body crowd unless you modify the rear set, and even if you did, I will honestly say you won't sell them. W-body owners are cheaper than Fiero owners BY FAR. Instead of half assing their mods, they just don't do them at all, it's easier just to say you can beat a 260hp Acura with a 175hp Pontiac.
Anyways, here is what I demand:
1) Mandrel bent. No if, ands, or buts about this.
2) For $600, to be honest, I'd expect a Y-pipe or at the very least the parts to cut and weld up my own (Some pipe and flanges)
3) Laser cut flanges to the head. Again, this is a must.
4) Primaries in 1.75". For a stock DOHC, I'd suggest 1 5/8", but for those turboed or modified I think 1.75 would be a lot better.
5) Dual 2.5" collectors Y-ed into a single 3" collector.
6) Grade 8 hardware is a plus, but I'd completely understand if that wasn't included (Not like it is expensive anyways, $10 maybe).
I would have them coated myself, I don't know if the rough $600 figure would include that or not.
I think you will need a mock up car. They will be risky to do without, though I'd volunteer to test them once I get my DOHC in (Early summer). Headers would be a risky thing to make without a DOHC car to test them on. I'd want mine to curl around the head, meeting over the trannsmission with a SMOOTH, large radius Y connecting them and point out towards the driver's side, rear wheel. I'd then curve it down for a muffler in stock Fiero location. This would also allow those who wissed to run it stock Fiero style.
I do hope you do this Doug. I would do them myself, but my welding skills aren't great, and I don't have the time.

Also, I'm sure you have a better source for mandrel bent tubing and flanges, but if not, the cheapest I've found (And they are VERY cheap), is from the guys at http://www.stahlheaders.com. Really easy and knowledgeable to deal with, and great prices, especially when bought in bulk.
hell not just fiero owners but economy GM owners - i couldn't get enough people to do a run of adjustable timing gears at a price way cheaper than what they sell for on other carsShaun41178(2) wrote:don't waste your time doug. Fiero ownersr won't spend the money. It will take you forever to sell 10.
Headers offer a noticable difference over stock manifolds, your gears do very little over the stock 94-97s.
All they do is save me 5 minutes of removing 8-10 valve cover bolts, and save me the price of gaskets I don't repalce anyways. For you, I, and Steven, they are useless. All they do is require removing the timing belt, resetting the tensioner, and buying all new pullies, just to install them and get timing options that are limited. For those of us with custom manifolds, or those of us intending on using custom manifolds, they aren't very useful. And for those of us using stock manifolds, we pretty much know the best timing options by now anyways, so set them once and leave em alone.

Sure is. But they are intended for an amazing engine. I'll build/buy them big for now, then won't need to upgrade them when I mod the engine further (ITBs, cams, turbo, etc)donk_316 wrote:aaron,
1.75 primary on a 566cc cylinder is monsterous!
