doc +h = dohc.. i only type dohc because thats what every manufacturer labels it in text and its what people are familiar with.. but when speaking i say the words not the letters
I just figured out what you're really asking. You're asking what we say when using our actual mouth to pronounce actual words in some sort of actual voice communication with another human being. Wow, who does that anymore?
I don't say "doc." I usually say "dual overhead cam" because that's just as easy to say as "dee oh aych see."
Between my friends and I we call it the 3.4, or the double overhead cam, as if it is the only DOHC or the only 3.4 ever produced. In fact, my friend has a 95 Firebird with a 3.4, and a DOHC motor waiting for a Fiero, and he actually has to say 3.4 Pushrod when talking about them as if he says 3.4 I'll equivelate it to the DOHC.
If someone asks what I have in it, I say a 3.4 liter 6, and occasionally add the Double Overhead Cam part if it seems like they'd know what it even means...

People ask me whats im swapping. i say "3.4 doc out of a Monte Carlo."
No one knows what the hell a TDC or LQ1 is in the real world.
Does anyone else say "doc" or does everyone else spell it out "d.o.h.c."?
When you said DOC to me I figured out what you were saying, but its not something I've heard someone say before. COOL! We can have our own secret language!
I say "dual overhead cam".
Among friends I say "tee-dee-cee" because they know what it is and its less letters than DOHC and easier on the tongue than "three-point-four"
I say doc sometimes! but lately ive been calling em dual over head cams probably cause thats what most people on the forum call em.
you guys are starting to rub off already :afrocool:
