Second, the fact is that temperatures are going up. The conjecture is that this is caused by greenhouse gasses.
An inference which can be made from the fossil record is that the earth was significantly warmer in the past than it is now.
Conclusion: temperatures may be going up, but it's not the end of the world and we don't really know why they're going up.
How much would you know about the life cycle of a newly discovered animal if you watched it for 12 seconds? That's about how much we know about climatic change on the earth because that's about the slice of time, relative to the age of the earth, for which we have good data.
You must get really tired from jumping to conclusions all the time.
As far as getting tired from jumping from conclusions... we know enough to know that global warming can and will impact current living condtitions on this planet... All the leading scientists say so...

WHat do leading scientists know? Let's be like Willy and believe military leaders, President Chimp, slimy politicians like Delay, and preachers.... fuck scientists; they know shit.

You're right, what does Jesus have to say about this stuff? ....much more reliable....Series8217 wrote:Scientists used to say the earth was flat.
This is why scientists call their beliefs, 'conclusions' and, 'theories.' The thumpers are in love with calling them fact and proof.
No credible scientist calls their findings as fact or proof. They might go as far as calling them laws, but this isn't to call them fact or proof, just strong evidence.

Last I checked scientists have changed their view on the flatness of the earth.EBSB52 wrote:You're right, what does Jesus have to say about this stuff? ....much more reliable....Series8217 wrote:Scientists used to say the earth was flat.
Nobody knows for sure what Jesus said at all!
Facts are observable phenomena. This is why scientists call their beliefs, 'conclusions' and, 'theories.' The thumpers are in love with calling them fact and proof.

Hypotheses are ideas on why.
Theories are hypotheses that have been confirmed by repeated experimental tests.
Example: evolution is a fact; we observe that things change over time. Natural Selection is a theory.
Example: global warming is a fact; we observe that global temperatures are increasing. Global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions from humans is a theory.
Is Natural Selection all there is to evolution? Maybe, maybe not.
Is global warming due exclusively to greenhouse gas emissions from humans? Heck no. Temperatures have fluctuated before humans. We don't actually know just how much they contribute, but they certainly are a factor.

It's all those damn farting cows. Methane is 20x the greenhouse gas that CO2 is(on a per molecule basis).Series8217 wrote:Temperatures have fluctuated before humans. We don't actually know just how much they contribute, but they certainly are a factor.

If we're blaming the cows... it's still a result of humans who feel the need to eat such a wasteful food productwhipped wrote:It's all those damn farting cows. think you got that one backwards.. the whole survival of the fittest/natural selection is a well documented factual ocurance, evolution is a theory infact its many theories depending on the defenition of the person you are talking toSeries8217 wrote:Example: evolution is a fact; we observe that things change over time. Right, it's not enough that we factory farm them to the point that it makes the Holocaust look like a picnic, but now we have to blame them for us exploiting them. It's like Dahmer blaming his victims for losing control of their bowls and shitting all over the carpet, as they pass.....DiggityBiggity wrote:If we're blaming the cows... it's still a result of humans who feel the need to eat such a wasteful food productwhipped wrote:It's all those damn farting cows. I think Kohburn's is closer to the way it is, w/o looking it up. He's basically saying:Kohburn wrote:think you got that one backwards.. the whole survival of the fittest/natural selection is a well documented factual ocurance, evolution is a theory infact its many theories depending on the defenition of the person you are talking toSeries8217 wrote:Example: evolution is a fact; we observe that things change over time. The Theory of Evolution has many components:
- Natural Selection
-
-
-
etc....
I will dig out the books later to refine it. But all I'm saying is that words like:
- Proof
- Fact
- Truth
- other absolute words
scientists try to avoid due to being proven wrong later. See, science doesn't prove anything; it disproves things like theories and hypothesis. But when it disproves something, it doesn't run and say, 'aha, that was wrong, this is right.' It continues to disprove until a theory can't be disproved, then the theory is given legs. If it's not disprovable over a long period of time and scientists believe it to be forever repeatable, they call it a law. Like the law of gravity, law of conservation, etc... Hard-core scientists don't subscribe to laws, as they refuse to shut the door to other options. Just when you call gravity a law, something levitates or falls up.
Then you have the confused and angry Bible thumpers. They use absolute words all the time, as they can't make their argument without strong language, even if it ventures into territory that is unknown. That's why the strong hierarchy is so important, as in respect and believe everything your elders say, so questioning ridiculous, presumptuous assertions won't be done. Religion is a joke, not to say there isn't a God and Heavens, just that the way it's administered here on earth is a joke - panders to idiots.
What I dislike about religion is that it dares you to disprove it; science begs you to.....
