< @ NAS Lemoore
I heard about that one a little while ago, it's the second time it's happened here.
DANGIT WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO MISS THAT! :cussing:
They didn't let normal people out there anyway, but I'm sure I could have sweet talked some various NAS peoples that went out there into letting me go with (the Hobby Shop guys get to see that).
Too bad they made those vids as teasers so we have to pay to see all the results!
217mph in one mile is insane!
Stock Z06 does 200mph fairly quick without much problem. No surprise there. :thumbleft: HOLY TALL GEARS BATMAN!
A couple years ago there were like 1 or 2 American factory production cars that were faster (overall) than my Talon at it's best, now there're like, 257.
SUCK
I think I'm going to get rid of the TT SBC in the mulletmobile and build up a boosted 427 LS1, so I can have 4x more power than my tires or car will ever be able to handle.

I never knew that GM made a 405hp DOHC V8, and i call myself a GM fan :blah5:
It came in the last years of the LT series engines

The LT5 5.7l was a variant of the traditional 350, made from 1990-1995. In its first 2-3 years of production it had 375hp, and was bumped to 405 in the last 2. The cool thing about it was that you didn't have 405hp all the time. There was a performance control key that controlled the motor. When it was set to "Normal," the motor only ran off a single intake runner and injector per cylinder, making approximately 285hp. But when you flipped the key to "Performance," it opened up an extra intake runner and injector per cylinder, and it's like hitting a 120 shot of NOS. Unfortunately the LT5 is big and heavy, and was plagued with electrical problems. But nowadays the ones that survived the first 10,000 miles have been going pretty strong, with many above 100k with little or no problems.GM-TPI wrote:I never knew that GM made a 405hp DOHC V8, and i call myself a GM fan :blah5:

I didn't say it was, I said it was a variant of, and it is. The LT5 shares basic small block geometry, from block size and setup, to coolant/oiling passages, and everything else. Now the block is different with a different casting, but there's no doubt it was based off of a typical 350, and modified to accept the huge increase in power and RPM. It is still a bastardized pushrod motor, featuring an oil pump drive shaft (aka dummy cam). IMHO the LT5 is to a LT1 as a 3.4 TDC is to a 3.4 OHV, just with obviously a lot more research and development than the LQ1.The Dark Side of Will wrote:The LT5 is NOT a 350. It happens to displace approximately 350 cubic inches. That's all they have in common.

Just like Lotus did the Fiero suspension?Series8217 wrote:It's my understanding that Lotus designed the heads for the LT5. Also it has an aluminum block, unlike the LT1/LT2s which were iron... also even the ones that displaced ~350ci did not have the same bore and stroke as the regular 350.
Sorry, I had to...But I do recall Lotus having some part in it...I know they were built in the Mercruiser/Mercury Marine plant right here in Stillwater, OK. When we toured the plant they had one that was used for a cutaway demonstration, and another 2 just sitting on custom made cradles/stands for show. I didn't get to look too closely, they were behing some doors and even after beggin they wouldn't let me through.
I thought they were iron block...But I could be wrong.
They actually had like 348 or 349cid, achieved with a slightly smaller bore and longer stroke.
After reading, it is an aluminum block, and Lotus did design the heads. Oh, and it is listed underthe LT prefix of small block chevy engines. Fancy that.

The LT5 is NOT a small block. ZERO parts interchange. It is a completely different design. It has an aluminum block. It shares even less with the 350 than the LS1 does. The 350 and LS1 share roller lifters, rod bearings and bore spacing. The LT5 only shares bore spacing. It shares rod journal diameter, but I haven't found out if it uses the same bearings. It does not share main journal diameter.Aaron wrote:I didn't say it was, I said it was a variant of, and it is. You have LQ1 on the brain. The LT5 has no intermediate shaft. The oil pump is concentric on the crank on the crank snout just like the Northstar's.
