1988 Fiero GT--5-speed--3.4 DOHC--Sunroof

Post by Aaron »

The time has come. I am finished with this car, I had my fun, learned a lot, and consider it a big accomplishment, but now that it's done I feel it's time to focus on my black car. So here are the details.

1988 Fiero GT, with the factory Getrag 282 5-speed, and a factory sunroof. It has the original Mettalic Burgandy paint, and has roughly 112,000 miles. The car is in decent condition, but could use a paint job if you are looking for perfection. Where the paint is good it shines up well, but there are a few imperfections. The roof and decklid have faded, and there is a scrape on the front passenger side fender. No damage to the fender itself, just the paint on it. The interior is clean and complete with no warping. A Pontiac Monsoon CD Player was added, along with a short shifter. Overall I'd put the car in good condition from most that I have seen. The real gem is under the decklid.

The 3.4l Twin Dual Cam engine came from a 1992 Grand Prix GTP (210hp, 215tq), and had roughly 60,000 miles when pulled. I bought the car with the engine already swapped, but it didn't meet my expectations, so I pulled the engine out and completely redid everything. And I mean everything. Here is a list of everything that was done:

-I replaced EVERY gasket on the engine except for the head gaskets, because the compression check was good.
-I cleaned EVERY component of the engine and cradle meticulously, and repainted most.
-Engine mounts were replaced with all 3 of Rodney's poly mounts, and I added a 4th lower engine mount using a Dodge Truck Mount. I also added a custom welded dogbone (New ends), with a custom built bracket on the engine, and the stock Fiero bracket on the chassis. The engine is 5-point mounted, and doesn't move. That's more mounts than V8Archie uses on his V8s.
-The clutch is a brand new Spec Stage 3, and grabs REALLY well.
-An extra rear valve cover was used on the front, with a welded on oil fill. These along with the intakes were painted cast aluminum silver. Checking and adding oil is a 2 minute job. It also has a full load of Mobil 1 synthetic, and a Pure 1 filter.
-I added a factory oil cooler, with brand new GM lines.
-The exhaust uses stock manifolds, then leads to a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust that leads into a West Coast Fiero Spinteck Muffler, then with dual 2.25" outlets into polished Cadillac Northstar tips. This is a sound clip of Steven's DOHC Fiero with the same exhaust: http://media.putfile.com/34DOHC-startidlerev
-The following sensors were replaced with new ones: Coolant Temperature Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Air Control valve, Oxygen sensor, Intake Air Temperature sensor, Thermostat, Serpentine belt, and all 6 spark plugs.
-Thermostat housing is from a 4cyl Fiero, modified for the 3.4.
-Ground cables were replaced via a 4g cable from the negative terminal to the chassis, 4g cable from the negative terminal to the engine, and a 4g cable from the engine to cradle.
-The wiring harness was completely redone, and uses a brand new 9396 DOHC ECU, and a custom chip by Ryan at GMTuners (Free lifetime updates). The harness is fully functional with no issues, and all dash equipment works as designed.
-The intake is a modified 3" mandrel bent aluminum CRX intake, new filter located in the fenderwell.
-The timing belt and idler pullies were all replaced, and I added 94-95 cogs, which will make future adjustments much easier.
-I upgraded the injectors and injector cover to the 94-95 units, they idle better and the cover looks better.
-Air Conditioning was bypassed and removed. I will include every peice needed to add it back to the car if you would like.
-Cruise Control is not hooked up, but is included.

I can't remember much else. This engine swap was done RIGHT. It will not need to be fixed, just maintained like you would a stock 2.8. It runs flawlessly, has tons of power, and is very reliable. I am looking for around $6,000, and I can probably take care of shipping. The car is located in Stillwater, OK. I encourage you to follow my build thread, and please call me if you have any questions.

Thanks a lot,
Aaron

I suppose you will give the money to your father since he spent over 22k on the camaro that YOU will put most of the miles on. Seems only fair.

Don't lie, Aawrong. $2700, tops.

Its his thread, he can have oversize pics if he wants.

Since we know what you paid for it, I don't think you are going to double the price just by getting it running corectly and installing an exhaust system, atleast not to the members here.

Its not my place to say how much you should sell for, just don't be surprised if it doesn't sell.

No, the money will go in my pocket. I paid for the car, I paid for the swap, I keep the money.

A couple months ago I was considering it, but I could not have been more amazed at how well it turned out.

Come drive it. If you can find anything not perfect about the swap, you'll get a refund. Oh, that's right, you're fine with the 86 that your wife paid for. Enjoy that shitty excuse for a suspension.

I know I'm asking a lot. I did a lot more than get it running and installed an exhaust. Over $1000 in replacement parts, not to mention labor. But I'm negotiable, and I'll pretty much take care of shipping for the buyer.

I bet my 86 suspension with poly bushings, cradle bushings, shocks, struts and springs will perform as well if not better than your worn out 18 year old suspension.

So you needed to redo your entire suspension for it to outdo mine. Nice.

Bottom line, if you don't like the price, don't buy it.

As much as I like 88 GT's, I'll have to pass. If it were to run quicker than my TBI car, I might consider it. I'd just hate to spend that much money to be that slow. You might want to put it on eBay. Some clowns just paid $22,000 for a Camaro....

I'll knock off $500, and give a written guarantee that it will beat a stock TBI OR TPI V8.

It just boggles my mind that people aren't beating your door down to buy this car, solely for the experience of doing business with you.

I'll take one tomorrow. Here's how it looked a month ago:

This engine is the engine in the back of the maroon car, that's how it drives...The engine for my black car is in a crate for now.

Good to see one of a-rods posts going to shit like he does with everyone elses.

$6k to run 15's? Why don't I just put in a 4.9 for christs sake and save myself $5k. Same performance with much less money.

You won't get more then $3500 for that car. Be it an 88 or not. 88 suspension isn't all that great either moron. Low 60's slalom and mid 80s on the skidpad. Same as the Pre88's.

I have an 88. So don't think I don't know what I am talking about.
FieroPhrek working on that ls4 swap for 18 years and counting now. 18 years!!!!! LOL

BEWARE OF BEN PHELPS. YOU HAVE VEEN WARNED. WORSE THAN MILZY IMO
