Has anyone done a remote-mount turbo on a Fiero?

never compare a remote to a traditional setup...two different ideologies...period. Most ppl use the V8 sts as a base for argument, it doesn't work that way. A remote setup works, but you will loose the bigger picture if all you care is about pk hp. Now on the other hand, a remote in a fiero changes most of the cons associated with this sort of system.

how are they different "idealogies?? How is compressed air being pushed into an engine from 4 feet down the exhaust system different from compressed air being pushed into the intake from 1 foot down the exhaust system? Seems about the same to me...

What bigger picture are you losing? The fact that you may have lag and that a high-torque v8 makes up for the early-rpm lag? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just trying to figure out what you're talking about.

Also, what cons are you inferring? Are you saying that the only con to a Fiero turbo system is room to mount it? Please be more specific on what you mean. Thanks!

the only install difference is the lengths. the only reason people like it is because they dont need a y-pipe made. or, just plain old dont have room near the y-pipe.
the performance difference will depend on how far away it is installed & the exhaust system. the further down the exhaust the turbo is, the more the exhaust cools. as it cools, it looses energy. this is why on a good setup, the turbo is on the y-pipe - closest point to exhaust port. jet-coating the exhaust or header wrap is a good thing for both - but the remote would benifit ALOT. also, exhaust is not a sealed system. noone worries about making a exhaust 100% leak proof. this will create some loss also. some copper RTV in all the joints would be a good thing.
next is the boosted air. the length will not give much of an "intercooler" effect. the speed & volume going thru the pipe just to much for the pipe itself to do much. 300+ CFM is ALOT of air - and thru a 3" pipe is ALOT of speed. yes, naturaly, there will be soooome, but nothing to claim "intercooling". but, with corrugated pipes, you would increase the surface area, and more cooling would occur, but it would restrict flow, and fight against the turbo.
next is oiling. now this part makes it actually MORE work than a normal install. oiling is normally gravity return. being the turbo may now be lower than the oil pan, gravity will not work. dunno if it has internal pump, or external pump - the oil must be pumped back.
and finally - fuel/timing management. no change here - gotta do it. more fuel. less timing. tho, many DIY'ers will skip this, and keep low boost, and be happy. just some bigger injectors, and turn the timing back 2* and be done. when you barely hit 4# boost peak , you can get away with that. and, with all the piping, 4# is prolly the most you get.
so, yeah, this may be a good thing for alot of people. its a bit of a hack - like a 586, instead of a Pentium - but it is more.
