Got a turbo passat yeterday

So my mate russell gave me his 98 passat yesterday. Has 127k onit, its an auto and runs great. except for one of the cats seperated from I guess its the turbo. I havnt spent a great dealof time looking yet. But it sounds like a truck right now. What would be the most cost efficient way to remedy that? And also, whats the cheapest way to up the boost?Is a MBC the way to go? Im real new to turbo's. Thanks.

pull the wastegate signal line. Tht will give you more boost.

Go to www.vwvortex.com and in the Passat section (or maybe the 1.8T section. it is a 1.8T, right?) look up the diode mod. It mimics the effects of a performance chip but it's a lot cheeper.

As far as the cat, I would just look into replacing the whole downpipe. You can probably find a stock one from someone who upgraded on the vortex or you could upgrade to a 2.5" or a 3". Not sure what that would cost, a used stock one could probably be had pretty cheap.
