Earl's p/n: 984210 -- Blue Anodized Aluminum 90-Degree 5/8" Hose Barb to 1/2" NPT Male Elbow

The stock 3800 alt bracket (early years) holes are the perfect size to be tapped for 1/2" NPT threads. I just cut the larger I.D. section of each passage off then tapped the remaining holes.

I installed an autometer boost gauge a few days ago. Unfortunately I'm a dumbass and teed into a boost source rather than a vacuum source so I'm only reading boost for the time being. I have to buy some more vacuum hose before I can run everything right.

Here's a pic of the view I have from the driver's seat now. I know it's cluttered, but everything is visible and I wanted to set things up to where I wouldn't have to take my eyes off the road much.

I can't stand the A-pillar gauges but I think I'm going to have to use one. I need an AFR gauge and I don't really have another place to put it.

Give me a week or 2 and you will see at least the AFR gauge taped to the top of my dash.

I installed my manual boost controller today.

It's this unit:
http://www.turboxs.com/faq/turboxshigh.htm

It seems to work pretty well. You have to make sure you follow the directions closely to make sure you have it set up right. It's a little more sensitive than I thought. I accidentally would it up to about 18-19psi for about a second. I didn't do any damage though and I had 100-octane in it. I need to find a 13.5psi setting and a 16-17psi setting. That's probably as high as I'll go this year.

Is it really KR happy at that 18/19psi?

I just got my 110 octane today, and I am going to dial my gate in to 20 and go for broke here in the next few weeks.

Your "secret pistons" comment has me intrigued.

Re: 3800-Turbo Project+ build thread (4/18 1/4 Mile times!)

So I woke up today and was in debate about going to the track. The day started out so nice that I had no choice but to go.

I had 5 runs. All runs were in full street trim with 100 octane gas mixed with a small amount of 94. 22psi tire pressure.

Run#1
I was impatient when I got there so I was like the 2nd car out. This run was done on 12psi. This was the only good race I had all day. It was against an Evo. I didn't launch hard and pretty much used this as a shakedown run.

60ft- 2.067
1/8- 8.088
mph-97.55

1/4- 12.230
mph-116.41

The Evo ran a 12.41@114.

Run#2
This run was against myself. I turned the boost up to about 14psi. I didn't launch hard on this run either (My 60fts were not good at all today). I spun a good ways down the track and had to let off around 60mph and got back on it.

60ft- 2.021
1/8- 8.114
mph-97.84

1/4- 12.214
mph-117.89

Run#3
Once again, boost went up. This run had the best 60ft of the day, but I was a dumbass and left the car in 2nd after the burnout and therefore bouncing off the rev limiter. I let off and coasted the rest of the way.

60ft- 1.955
1/8- 7.943
mph-88.42

1/4- 14.038
mph-65.61

Run#4
I was mad at myself for being a dumbass on the last run so I went right back for this run. This run was done on 14-15psi. I cut an ok 60ft and was able to keep traction. This was the best run of the day.

60ft- 1.975
1/8- 7.817
mph-101.21

1/4- 11.864
mph-119.59

Here's the pic of that slip: (I'm car 213)
Image

Run#5
I cranked the boost up to 16psi. But once again, traction was not my friend and I had to let off big time around 65mph to straighten out. I got back on it and finished the run. I wish I would have kept traction because even with letting off, I trapped almost the same mph!

60ft- 1.967
1/8- 8.085
mph-98.72

1/4- 12.169
mph-119.58

I'm pretty happy with how the day went. I do wish I had some more traction and I now understand the need for drag radials. I also wish I could build boost at the line too. I really have to switch out my brake pads. I have quite a bit of MAF ceiling left too so I think 17-18psi will be possible without having to scale. All in all, I'm finally in the 11-second club, and I'm happy with that. This thing definitely has some low 120's trap speeds in it too.

I don't put a whole lot of trust in the 1/8mph at this track. I have always trapped a much higher mph in the 1/8 at this track as opposed to other tracks. I'm confident in the 1/4 numbers though. I will be out running at other tracks throughout the season to back these times up.

I was about to ask on that. your 1/8th mph seems way high in comparison with your 1/4 mph. unless the car felt like it was falling on its face up top, the track needs to look at their timing system.

Congrats on the 11 though! Nice work

EDIT: The ET's look right, the trap beam for the 1/8th is probably off though.

I was wondering about that too, just thought you must have some really low final drive gears.

I would say that if this were at another track, my trap would be about 96-97mph in the 1/8.

I lost my title of the fastest 3800 fiero in Michgian!

Looks like some really fast street style dial in runs... some 110 and tires... and its time to go 10's huntin.

If you need some more boost off the line, I have the "my" antilag setup working at less than 0 timing now in a one of my friends cars.

I think at this point it would be more prudent solving (or at least improving) the traction issues (by installing some DR's or full gummy's) vs. trying to get more boost off the line. He already can't hook; giving it more boost off the line isn't going to help anything with the current setup.

Nice runs, Joe! With a good set of tires I bet you can cut a 1.6 sec or faster short time which should translate to better than a 11.4 sec in the 1/4. Not bad for a stock cam huh...???

i know how it goes, strangely enough the turbo seems to make more power at launch time then the blower setups do. Lapeer is REALLY cold and crummy right now, my buddies can hardly do anything out there right now 60' wise. I imagine that the 1.9's were common for the AWD stuff that was out there yesterday.
