yes these are 3.1 pistons for a 40 over motor. meanign ti would have to be bored out .040 over.

I also have a brand new 3.1 crank too I can sell you with the pistons.

with a stock 86 GT what all would be involved in putting in these pistons, and would it be worth it on an older motor? Would it deminish the life of the motor?

You have to bore out the motor.
Basically if you rebuild the motor you can install these.

Dont forget that little issue of needing a different crankshaft.
