Well, since I made myself a new TV cable and got the shift kit installed, I decided to do a little more testing tonight and actually ventured outside of the neighborhood. I'm sure my neighbors thank me HA!

I was able to confirm that my TCC lockup circuit is wired properly, although I need to get the engagement dialed in a little better. Now that I know this, I can tie up the rest of my wiring, mount the magnadoodle properly, and put the console back together

I ran into a couple more 20yr old car issues though:

First is that my distributor O-ring decided to start leaking on me. Hopefully its easier to get than a TV cable

Second is that this thing is fucking scary at highway speeds. Upon further inspection, I'm needing some front wheel bearings....BAD

I'm getting called out of town again, but hopefully I can get these knocked out over the weekend

For the reference, it's the same O-ring that the small block Chevy used, I just got one for that. Auto Parts stores are good at charging $20 for it if it's for a V6, and 50 cents if it's for a SBC.

whatever. just go in and type in fiero or whatever into the computer system and it will come back $1 or $2 at the most.

Oh, I almost forgot, heres a tech tip:

If you find yourself with a frayed T.V. cable, A hood release cable kit from Autozone provides everything you need for a rebuild.

Anybody got some tips on doing a 3100/3400 swap?

You'd be best off looking for a 3500 or 3900. But if that costs too much, 3400 all the way.

Non-VVT 3500's are as cheap as 3400's and make close to as much power N/A (~210 HP) as a turbocharged iron head engine can make.

The VVT 3500's and 3900's are more complex to install, especially if you want to keep the VVT.

the 35/39 vvt would be cool but, I'm looking for simplicity and cheap. This little incident is already going to put me over my 2k budget...

You're already megasquirted so wiring shouldn't be hard. Do a 3400, 3100 would be the same work for less power, unless you wanted the powerband slightly higher for your turbo but its not like even the L44 is a high rpm screamer. You may have to fab a front mount and come up with a dog bone bracket, but maybe some of that stuff can transfer from the L44.

A non-VVT 3500 has the same basic complexity of install as a 3100 or 3400. I don't recall if the non-VVT 3500's used throttle by wire or cable throttles, but I think that would be the only thing that would be different. The throttle by wire engines can be converted to cable throttle easily enough.

You *might* try ed morad, at the risk of getting overcharged, but he will have a complete motor he knows the story on and the harness. However you will never talk to him, a guy named Eric will help you.

3900 is a PITA. My buddy did it in his Fiero and has had some serious regrets... he says with the money he spent he could have done a v8...
