I have a battery box but it isn't designed to fit int he front compartment. Its just a box like what you would mounjt in the trunk. Id let it go cheap.

pic? is it a stock or custom deal? If its a custom thing, I could still mount it up front, just down lower since I am ditching the spare tire totally.

I made my own fiberglass battery box; it took two hours of work and ~$25 in materials. Cables are about $45 - $80. Copper is pretty expensive now..

What? I was helping out setting up stuff at the new shop on Saturday. WCF is still in business, they are just going through a move of the shop. They moved to a new, larger location in Tehachapi. They're just getting everything set up.

Oh, a friend who had a bad experience with them said they finally kicked the bucket. Regardless, they are WAY out of my price range. You got pics of how you built it?

My box is wet and tight.

Actually the box looks like this. I dont' have a strap kit for it but you can get that from summit for like $4 or you can probably make your own.

$5 and shipping

Want to make me one crzyone? I can weld, but I don't have a welder anymore and I don't know how I would cut the steel that precisely. If you're not in a rush shaun let me keep looking, thats not exactly what I was looking for, but I may be able to make it work.

Its made on a metal brake. Its a rectangle piece of steel that is bent in 2 places with little triangles welded on.

I don't have a welder, but I'm sure you could get it made locally for under $50. Just bring them the diagram.

A shop that has machines in it, like a machine shop....

Someone who can measure, cut, break, hole-punch, drill, prep, TIG weld, hole-saw, finish prep, add hardware....

interesting, I just described WCF :)

OR....
You can make one out of fiberglass, which I myself am not sold on the resin's reliability over time with battery acid/fumes.

Epoxy resin is pretty damned inert. Not sure about polyester.

I've got a ton of fiberglass on a roll here, I may make a wood mold with ltlferrari's dimensions, buy some resin and try to DIY. I am not paying WCF $180 for one, its just not in the budget.

Why not leave the battery in back?

Save the money to put towards the 3800 :thumbleft:

I see the advantage of a front-mount battery (Weight distribution/CoG, ease of maintenance), but I don't see it as a worthwhile mod for a street car. And you can still easily swap engines with the battery in back. In fact it's easier. With the budget you're on, and the goals you have, I suggest you narrow your mind to the one mod that will make the biggest difference--The engine swap. Once that's done you can play around with these high cost/low return modifications. Doing them now won't do any good, because 40mpg Civics will still be walking away from you.
