Sorry but I cant see your welds past that TURBO!!!

Sweet.

I spent the weekend hacking together a mandrel bent 2.5" mild steel exhaust for my passat, and I gotta tell you, Migging aint easy. Getting the wire speed and heat range right is a must, and it looks like your doing that.

If you wanted a welding lesson, you should have asked Aaron. He'd teach you how to weld AND bitch you out about your wastegate location, all for the same low price: FREE!

Turbo's pretty. I like the flex joint. Are you going to support the turbo with anything else?

Why start shit Will? You're so up on the not trashing threads, keeping the flame wars out of them, and then you start this shit?

I think it's quite clear this build and mine are designed on different goals, time constraints, and financial constraints. So it should stand to reason they will be quite different, and they are.

Now without adding to the flame war...

Looks great so far, I really like your turbo position. Do the shift cables not get in the way there? Turbo looks good, make sure you clock the oil inlet to the top. Nice wastegate, I'm using the same. Where are you going to put your intercooler? A/A, or A/W? Should make for a fun car, hopefully that monster compressor doesn't lag too much.

Looks good. I hope you build a support bracket for that heavy turbo! It's going to eventually tear that manifold apart otherwise. Something that bolts to the turbo and helps support it off the tranny would work fine.

That "T" into the turbo isn't going to be the most efficient, but it will work. If you can afford some bends later you could redo it fairly easily, but the easiest time would be now, in case the turbo has to move a bit to accomodate the bends.

Keep us updated on the build!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

To clear up a few things:

A/W intercooler is going somewhere around where the factory cat sits

don't worry, the center is nowhere near clocked at this point

its an auto car so shift cables don't really fall into play

yep, I have an extra support that fits between the compressor housing and the transmission, its not in the photo though

anything else?

Ironic the only one on the forum who understands this is the one with the prettiest welds.

Looks like a great build. The compressor on that turbo is huge for a 2.8l, it absolutely dwarfs the turbine.

It's really annoying that you won't post the pictures here though.

well, it seems life has slowed the progress down a bit, but I'm still getting somewhere slowly but surely. Here's a few pics of getting the downpipe/exhaust made up. remember now, I never claimed to be a welder :)
