Question about flow in a Flowmaster 80

Question about flow in a Flowmaster 80

I have a question about the way exhaust will flow through a flowmaster 80 series muffler.

It is supposed to have 1 inlet and 2 outlets, but what if you used 1 of the outlets as the inlet, and then used the inlet for the other outlet?

Is the chamber design on a Flowmaster going to inhibit flow if hooked up like that?

it wouldn't flow well at all hooked up backwards.

umm, yeah that wouldnt work well for flow. Kinda like your face is smooth in one direction and rough in the other.

dude just put a cat converter on it, and a couple of resonator tips. It won't be that loud trust me.

I had an open dump on my car for the longest time and it wasn't loud. Open dump meaning no exhaust after the crossover pipe(pre turbo). The exhaust dumped straight out of the bottom of the car at the Y pipe

It wasn't loud untill I stood on it. Idle was pretty quiet even. Never was pulled over for it being too loud either.

If you put a cat on your car, and two tips, combined with the longer exhaust, it should be fairly quiet.

Sellthatmuffler. Its a pain to wedge in there anyways I feel.

Be wary of having your exhaust exit under the car - my car was skull numbing loud inside when it was missing the tailpipes and tips, even with a full cat and muffler. Once the exhaust was complete out to the tips, noise inside dropped to perfectly acceptable levels once the gases weren't popping out of the muffler and resonating the whole engine bay. Didn't get much quieter on the outside, but the exhaust tone sure sounded sweet!

If I managed to cram an unmodified flowmaster 80 in the stock location alongside a cat and all exhaust piping, while retaining the stock trunk, I refuse to believe that you couldn't do it when routed Fiero style, as you'd have a fuckton more room. It may not be easy, they're heavy as fuck, and it drones a bit at 2500, but the idle tone kicks ass, I think.

I guess I didn't mention what I was looking at this for...

This muffler came out of a Fiero, but I was trying to see if I could use it in my truck. To do so it would need to be backwards.

I would never hook one of these up backwards on the Fiero.

I've used a few of these before in Fieros but I have a Borla system now.

Ooohhhh I see. Yeah man I'd use a Delta 40 or the like instead, why fight with the wrong configuration? Or you could get a cheap Thrush or other knockoff for half the price. The delta configuration supposedly helps deal with the drone those things make at ~2500.

IDK, maybe I should just pay to have it done at a shop. It would be about $275 for a good catback dual exhaust installed at the local Exhaust Pros.

I'd hafta disagree with the droning. My '91 Camaro 5.0L has the 2.5" Flowmaster 80-series, and it's got a pleasantly noticeable idle, but wonderful on the highway. I can hear my CDs without having to turn it up much. Seems to be loudest at full throttle at low rpm, as I expect. It didn't seem too heavy when I installed it. -Atilla
