Interior Squeak

Post by befarrer »

I have a very loud and annoying squeak on my Fiero. It is not a rattle, but a squeak, and it has to do with chassis flex since it does it at .05MPH on uneven surfaces, like going over a speed bump at an angle, even at 100MPH on the highway.

It seems to be coming from behind the passenger side rear speaker on my 86 Fiero coupe. I thought it was the rear window since it was installed improperly when it was replaced sometime before I got it, and it was only 1/2 sealed, but I just got it removed and resealed, and it didnt make a difference (well, the engine noise is alot quieter in the cab now). I have driven around with the speaker removed, the entire B-pillar interior trim, I have had the rear decklid vent removed and driven it, also the inner sailpanel thing (the black thing) was removed and didnt make a difference, I even replaced the sail panel on the outside, and no difference. What could it be that is squeaking?
It's not Skyline fast, but it does alright

Your Fiero squeaks?

That's weird, both of mine do too.

Its the door strikers, look it up on OE. You can use the HELP! brand ford door strikers, they are bigger and will fill the gap that is the wear on the latch.

That door is a dink to open sometimes when the temp is around freezing, it will only unlatch part way  , like when you dont close it hard enough.

I will have to try going over some bumps with the passenger door slightly opened (with a passenger holding the door open ofcourse), that makes sence, but the noise sounds like it is higher up, I thought it was the sunroof latch for the longest time, untill I sat in the passenger side while it was driven.

You need to ride in my dads 84 SE, it has 118,000KM on it, and it sounds like new inside, the doors have a firm noise when closing, and not a single rattle or vibration. Where the doors on mine have a clanky, rattly sound, and the sunroof rattles and sounds like it is going to fall off in all positions. But mine has 275,000KM on it.

Several years ago I came across this problem on AllData - and I didnt even know it was an issue at the time. I had written an article on it for Fieros West but it seems to have fallen off the planet.

As I recall, it had something to do with a sheet metal screw that acted as a ground for the speaker ( B pillar ) that would wind up ribbing it's head on the panel work - if anyone has access to alldata they can verify, but it is absolutely on alldata

Squeaky Fiero

Post by wolfheads »

I test drove a new Fiero back in 1986 and I didn't notice any squeaks. Time has a way of making things squeak. Including me.
How do I set the idling on my '85 Fiero GT ?
