Aftermarket interior plates for a GT
Hey,
A friend is installing my new deck into my GT, and its a double-din. It is a lot taller than the factory deck, and will need most of the area between the bottom of the climate controls and the top of the deck.
So I figure I may as well replace them with ones that I think look better, the 80s plastic carbon fiber wannabe isn't my thing I guess...
Are there any companies that make these? If not, I will probably do laser cut steel or aluminum, then brushed. I like the look of brushed metal.
Thoughts? Comments? Advice?

No, but him and I have been installing stereos for years. He knows his shit, and I trust him. And I don't liek those interior pieces anyways, so it isn't like it matters.stimpy wrote:You're gonna let your buddy take a chainsaw to your dash, huh? Please tell me he installs for a living. And not at Best Buy.
So, are there any aftermarket pieces you know of so I don't have to make them myself?
Be helpful for once..

Be helpful for once? Bitch, I've been helpful with Fieros since you were still riding BMX.
How's this for helpful. There is a reason why you don't see double DIN stereos in Fieros, and that is it is extremely easy to fuck things up. But please, go ahead. You'll wind up cutting on your car in more ways then just the faceplate. And once you've cut, you can't go back.
So no, I don't believe there has been a market to bear mass production of double din radio bezels for Fieros. Did you really need me to tell you that?

When did I ask for a double din bezel?stimpy wrote: So no, I don't believe there has been a market to bear mass production of double din radio bezels for Fieros. Did you really need me to tell you that?
I want to know if anyone makes STOCK aftermarket bezels. I will "fix it" from there for my tastes and my stereo. And you'd be surprised, the double din actually fits quite well, the only problems are it clearing some mounting tabs and the bezel.

Plenty of people make overlays, no one that I am aware of makes a reproduction of the entire piece. If you want a dash overlay kit, I was very happy with the deal I got from www.kickindash.com
Hmm. I am going to contact them for more info.
Can you give me a pic of your setup?
I'm not one for the carbon fiber thing, but if they can do that, I'm sure they can do brushed steel or aluminum.
Thanks for the help!

Well I'm glad you know exactly how it will look once I cut it up.
I want to see it so I can judge if I like it in its beginning state, and if I'd be able to pull off making it look good once adjusted. I'm not "Cutting it up," hacking it to shit, I'd be shaving a half inch off. It isn't a big deal. You seriously underestimate my fabrication skills. I think I will just make the pieces out of laser cut, brushed steel or aluminum, and have them engraved using our laser cutter here at school. I might just have them backlit, saying something like "Fiero GT," or something hinting at the DOHC that I hopefully have in there soon.
I think I can make this look pretty good at any rate.

I'm working on it.
I'm ready to drop $150 on the ECU/harness/MAF as soon as I find someone with them.
I am also ready to buy the poly bushings, but waiting until I have everything I need for the motor first.

In the case of the 3.4 DOHC, most certainly. The parts are hard to find, expensive, and a lot of times not in the best of condition. But as far as the swap goes, I don't see any reason why it is any more dificult than putting the 2.8 back in, except for a couple fuel and coolant lines.ditch wrote:He's in the middle of getting everything together.Shaun41178(2) wrote:then do it already.
Gathering all the parts is the hardest step in a swap, right Aaron?

Why do you feel bad for it?
Anything I have done, or plan to do in the immediate future, is 100% reversible. Furthermore, I have the money and ability to get it done how I want it, and how I feel is best. And this treatment it shall get.
Feel bad all you want, if I like it, that's what counts. And when I'm done, even if for some reason it is a lawn ornament, if I like it, then so be it.
It still might be faster than your excuse for a L67...

Just curious, what's this sudden interest you've taken in "ooh. SNAP!" dissing my engine? Do you think it's somehow attached to my manhood and by destroying it, then you've also destroyed me, your father figure, leaving you free to explore your Oepidal fantasies of bangin your mom in the kitchen?
Really, I don't give a fuck. I bought the car as it is, and I've never attempted to lord any technical superiority over anyone, unlike another party in this dialogue. I've never represented it as anything but a bone-stock mill that's racked up 70,000 miles under the deckild of a Fiero. Tell me how many Fieros you can cout that can say that. And all I plan on doing to my motor is happily thrash on it for another couple hundered thousand miles.
So you can play MTA all you want and race my slow car with an engine that you don't own in a car that you quite possibly haven't a fucking clue how to drive. You know what, I really don't feel all that threatened.

When did I try to e-race you? I never even hinted at my motor being better than your's, I honestly don't care, and don't know. Yes by all reasoning it should make more than 198whp, but I don't know if it will or not.
And I'm pretty sure I can drive it, I've driven many 3.4s that are over 200whp.
I just find it kind of ironic how you can trash everyone else, and you had a brand new crate motor, probably upwards of $5000, with a set of decent headers, without power steering, putting down less power than a stock, 112,000 mile L67.
Also, being I have only owned 1 Fiero, I have owned 1 that has climbed more miles than your's has, and still runs flawlessly as I expect it to do so for many more miles. It has just south of 110k on the bone-stock mill, well, stock as your's if headers, CAI, and PS delete are stock...
