I'd be more inclined to to believe the story had the author cited, oh I don't know, anything. It is an intruiging tale, though.

As for the scientist husband, I don't see any real possibility of a relevant connection. I think the author was just getting a little too caught up in the conspiracy theory.

I had never heard of the case before. Interesting, but I'm thinking there must not be much to it, since no one's really tried to make political gravy out of it.
