Difference between 85-87 and 88 harmonic balancer?

Post by coinage »

what are the differences other than the 88 is neutrally balanced? is there a way to tell the difference without taking them to my machine shop?

I got 2 with my falconer set and i am assuming they are performance ones i am hope to use one of those insted of dropping $300 on a new one...

Thanks

Harmonic balancer should always be neutrally balanced, since it's job is to absorbe harmonic vibrations; not create new ones.

GM motors were balanced on the flywheel.

Other than that, I have no idea... Different belt pulley p'raps (didn't 88s get a serpentine rather than V belts?)?

I've always understood that all the 2p8 V6 harmonic balancers were the same.

The pulley bolts to the balancer. Whatever kind of belts you use.
My 88 has a V belt for the A/C and a flat belt for the WP and alternator.
