I was browsing ATP Turbo today and saw they had a kit for the Volvo C30. Wondering WTF a C30 is, I did some digging, and found this:
It has a turbocharged 227hp 2.5L I5 with a 6-speed, and fully independent 4-wheel suspension, all for under $25k. It makes 227hp at 5,000rpm, but the real kicker is 236tq from 1500-50000rpm. Peak torque is flat from off idle to where peak power is made! Dynamic stability and traction control, 19/28mpg, and quite the option list as well. 17 exterior color choices, and 12 interior color combinations too! I really like this thing, I could see myself driving one. It's a bit overweight at 3200lbs though. Drop $3250 at ATP, and you have a GT30R, cast iron turbo manifold, TiAL 44mm external wastegate, and a stainless steel wastegate dump and 3" downpipe. Quite an impressive little hatch I'd say!

Have you looked into the options? Check out the Volvo website and do the "Build your own" option. It's really easy to get up in the $35k range, and it's really not a competitor to the Solstice/Sky. A more fair comparison would be Volkswagen GTi, Mini Cooper, Honda Civic Si, etc. I'm not trying to piss in your porridge, it's even more stunning in real life and the paint they use on it is gorgeous, but Volvo's pricing on it is going to make depreciation be a real burden for the owners. Example-Volvo charges a fee, I believe $400, as a "customization charge" to add ANY option on to the base model. In addidtion to the cost of the option. So if you want navigation, for example, in addition to the $1100 Bang & Olafsun self levitating nav screen, tack on an extra $400 for the priviledge of asking for it. The idea is "in for a dime, in for a dollar" so might as well load the bitch up with options, as long as you're financing.
My pastor had a P1800E when I was a kid. Google it and you'll see where the looks come from, and I do like it. I checked it out before I bought my car, but the fact that it would have cost $30k+ to get it equipped how I wanted, plus I would have had to wait for at least a year cooled my enthusiasm. Plus my CONVERTIBLE PT Cruiser is lighter, and more powerful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I like it fine.

My Fiero is now a Finale. The end.
