Dude it weighs 360 pounds installed in the FWD auto applications. It's like 200 lbs lighter than the damn LS4.The Dark Side of Will wrote:If you're saying that, then find the numbers. The 3.6 also has an aluminum intake manifold (no idea why...) vs. the nylon manifold on the Gen III/IV engines.
GM still can't take a V6 seriously.

I'm not gonna argue that. I will argue that my not using the cam phasing and the displacement on demand features does give me a small reduction of weight. As compared to if I got them and used them. Also, short-term, my using the flyweight Muncie saves me a few pounds versus a 4T65E, like the 3.6 uses.
I'd make an offer, to stick that 3.6 in the Bonneville I didn't have, the last time this thread was active, but you didn't offer this engine before I got my first 5.3

Doesn't mean it can't shed another 20-30# of intake manifold weight... :thumbleft:

I was wrong about the 200 lb difference; the weight I had before (from WCF) was the whole powertrain, engine and tranny together.
http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en/pr ... _LY7_n.xls
Engine Mass (kg/lbs) engine plant as shipped weight:
165 / 364 Automatic 187 / 412 Manual
The difference in mass between auto and manual is because of the heavy dual-mass flywheel, and I think it's also shipped with the clutch and pressure plate installed. I don't think the auto comes with the torque converter attached at all.
I just looked up the listing on the engine mass for the LS4 on the same site and it says 419 lbs (automatic).
So the 3.6 weighs 55lbs less than the LS4.

The 3.6 is a V6. That reduces the components by 25%. Two less pistons, two less connecting rods, a shorter, lighter crankshaft, a lighter harmonic balancer, two less cylinders, a shorter block, only eight more valves and lifters than an OHV V8, lighter lifters since its DOHC, no pushrods, lighter rockers (of course some DOHC designs don't even have rockers),The Dark Side of Will wrote:The 3.6 is DOHC. That adds a lot of weight.
If the 3.6 was a DOHC V8 version of the LS4 your argument might hold up
its like you are trying to make me keep it!=)Series8217 wrote:
anyhow since I am a machinist and have full access to waterjets galore, I was going to make an adapter plate for this motor to be mounted to a standard 60v6 tranny......I was leaning towards the g6 6 speed, but if I really wanted to I could mount it any fiero transaxle.......but then there was always longitudinal. I actually started mocking the car up at one point in time with a audi transaxle.....

How much of this is left in the $550 deal? Thanks.XzotikGT wrote:550.oo plus shipping.....need this stuff gone like yesterday!
BryceXzotikGT wrote:This is as complete as it gets. I have the complete uncut harness, all accessories, fuse box, fuel pump, exhaust all the way to the joint just after the cat, drive by wire gas pedal, two PCMs: one for the tranny and one for the motor, Mass airflow sensor. This motor will bolt right to the six speed in the SAAb 9-3(six speed), and will work out quite nice in a Fiero.
