An idea just occured to me... you might be able to use factory 4p9 sleeves if the need arises.

WELL, I HAVE SOME FANFUCKINGTASTIC NEWS!

The time serts hold very well, in fact too well. Instead of pulling out, my head bolts pulled the grade 8 washer into the boss on the head and cracked off the side of the boss (only one hole). Now I have to fucking weld the boss to fix the fucking thing. the worst part is that its all my fault because I was torquing to 95 ft lbs, not 95 nm. Im so fucking retarded that it hurts. Lets see when I get time to take the head to get welded???? Anyone ever use alumaloy?

It's good that they held. Pics?

95 ftlbs ought to give you good head gasket seal... :bootyshake:

Well all gotta learn somehow, but do you really have to learn on a setup that is, for all practical purposes, irreplaceable?

SHUT THE FUCK UP.

The last guy that had this engine to put in a race car had it for 6 years and never opened the shrink wrap. Guess what its mine now and I will do as I fucking please with it. Last one on ebay went for like 500 bucks so I didnt see you stepping up to the plate and dropping the cash.

Yeah, OK. Cause I don't have a need for an aluminum 60 degree, it's just fine for you to destroy an irreplacable engine.

Good luck finding another one that's been sitting in shrink wrap.

<moderator> Settle down, gentlemen </moderator>

How often do these blocks come up on Ebay? What search terms do you use to find them? I'd like to get my hands on one.

I could tell you but then I wouldnt' get such a good deal on them now would I?

Actually I just go to Engine and components and they have a subsection for blocks, and then I just usually type in a search for aluminum.

Basically that will display all the auctions with the term aluminum in it. Thats a good way to do it or search for V6.

Post a pic of the broken peice please

I've snapped mounting bosses off trannys and had them welded back on - just a minor delay in the progess, thats all

EXACTLY, although when you only get to spend an afternoon a week, and a saturday in the shop it tends to delay a little bit longer. The broken piece is about 1/4 of the bolt hole circumference by 1/2" long. its V shaped. From the looks of the fracture, the material is not very strong, almost no real 45deg angles. Whatever alloy gm made this block out of (or whomever made the heads RM CO.??? ) used a very weak alloy.

With all due respect, the alloy is probably perfectly adequate for the use it was intended. Don't blame GM for the fact that you overtorqued it by 35%.

I didnt blame anyone but myself, Im just stating the fact that the alloy is weak. That is the manufacturers fault.
