Rev limiter ? on L67.

Post by stimpy »

I replaced my dead battery and did a long overdue air filter replacement with a K&N (factory GT airbox). I fired the car up and gave it some revs in park, and it only revved up to 3500 and it sounded like it was hitting a rev limiter. I took it for a drive, and it revved to the redline heartily when I stood on it. Does the engine have a rev limiter in park, and it just wasn't revving high enough to hit it with my grimy airfilter?

You're right, my car deserves better.

PS, the engine is out of a 97 Bonneville.

Help me Mr. Wizard!

I would assume it does. My Intrepid does the same thing in neutral. Bounces off a 3500rpm rev limiter in neutral and revs freely in drive.

Yes it wont' rev past that preset rpm in park and or neutral. Some sort of safety feature I can only assume

Its perfectly normal. Don't fret :thumbleft:
