Sweeet. That's down to half the cost of the engine management needed to run it.

If I didn't have other bills, I'd be looking hungrily at that $1300 travel expenses check that's coming soon.

I am reminded that the Q4 waterpump has a sprocket in the Q4 timing chain. The longitudinal N*'s could be set up to drive the waterpump off the intermediate timing sprocket. This would not only be cool, like an Indy car accessory drive, but would reduce serpentine complexity and increase accessory drive durability and reliability.

You *might* be able to write your own code for it with something like the Megasquirt... From what I understand they're using a fairly fast processor. Might be enough to control a few phasers.

As much as I hate the simplicity of megasquirt, I think this would be a valid application for it... since nothing else works, or would be too much work.

I'd need to know how the phasers work, first. I could figure it out by taking one apart, but I don't like reinventing wheels unless the original wheel was gold plated.

find a service manual for the first year they came out. They'll explain them in depth. Or borrow/steal/photocopy one from the stealership.

That doesn't work after about '96. I tried it with the Y2K engine manual looking for an explanation of the then new crank sensor strategy, but there wasn't anything useful in the manual.

Why would the new crank sensors and angle be of any relevance to a technician? Either they work, and the engine runs, or it doesn't.

The VVT phasers are actually new parts, knowledge of how they operate would be critital to diagnosing problems.

Heh, maybe. More likely the procedure is more along the lines of "Do this test, and if it doesn't work, replace it".

will, i just spent about 20 minutes on uspto.gov and couldnt find the pattent for the cam phasors. If you can dig up the pattent numbers somewhere that would be awesome. Ask the seller to get the number off the phasors :thumbleft: maybee????

anyways, I heard that the gm design is now out because the patent on the design ran out, and they took it for free. take that with a grain of salt htough i got it from a honda guy.
