Oil cooling?

I have a Z34 3.4 DOHC oil/water heat exchanger on the shelf if you'd like to use that.

Looks like it's coming along nicely. Good to see you're doing another quality build, not like some of the things I've seen elsewhere. By stock computer, you mean the stock Fiero computer or the stock 3500 computer? What'd you do for a crank sensor if it's the Fiero ecm?

Are these the rockers you used?

I am using the stock fiero computer that came with the car. The fiero computer doesn't need a crank sensor. I however did have my harmonic balancer machined just in case I decided to add DIS later.

And yes, those are the rockers I used.

Ohhh, I see. I completely missed that you put a distributor back in.

What year/motor heads were the Gen 2's from and was there a reason for using them specifically?

I'm trying to slowly bring myself up to speed on learning the in's and out's of the 3x00 motors, so bear with me.

Gen 2 aluminum heads were available from like 87-93 in pretty much any fwd v6 car. like cavaliers, sunbirds, things like that. I used them because I acquired them from a guy who used to race with the 60 degree in midget cars. Also because, when I got my 3500, it had no heads on it, it was just a shortblock.

The 3x00 motors are pretty much a straight swap if you already have a v6 fiero. Uses the same mounts and all.

Also, I've gotten the dizzy to fit with the Gen2 heads, but I don't think it's possible with Gen3 heads. Good to see your getting it together finally Shaun. I still have a bunch of 3.4L TDC stuff from Eric here with your name on it! lol

Well I have been doing some thinking and I am thinking about eliminating the ITB from the equation. The blades leak air past them, allowing for a crazy high idle. I guess this isn't a big problem with it a race only setup. The only way to get the idle down is to dump a ton of fuel, or to block the runners to the throttle blades with a plastic bag or other means.

The plan was to just take the blades and shafts out, plug the holes(which I don't want to do as it will be harder to go back to itb later), then add a single 65mm throttle body on the plenum.

Thoughts?

How well machined are the bores where the plates seat?

If those are out of round, the plates will not seal. Alltrbo has my Gen II ITB setup right now, which is why I don't look myself.

I have the capability here to clean up those bores if they're rough.

The bores look round with the naked eye. I can see that the blades themselves aren't that perfect however. It would take quite a bit of work to get the current blades seated correctly. Getting new ones made is something I don't feel like doing either.

I am leaning more and more towards a single tb.

Does it look like the bores were honed, bored, or finished with a dremel?

It may be possible to snag a stock throttle plate from something common that's close in diameter and bore the stacks to match.

You've put enough work into it already that it seems like a shame to give that up and go back to a "normal" manifold.

They are bored. I think I remember measuring them at like 42mm if I am not mistaken. Don't think any oem tb blade is that small. Not to mention it has to have the securing screws in the same locations too.

Sport bike TB's are in that size range. Check on '98-'99 GSXR 750 throttles... I have two sets originally intended for the Northstar... I think they're about that size. Since you just need the plates, you won't be limited to that application and could use the more modern stacked setups.

Also check out TWM, Extrude-a-Body, Kinsler, Inglese, etc... They may be able to sell you ready made high quality plates without fuss.

The GM TBI throttle bores from the 305/350 trucks are 1.68" = 42.7mm. Might be able to hone them for a tight fit.

Those units ought to run about $8 each at a pick/pull...

There are several vendors on eBay that buy cores and bore them oversize. They probably have hundreds of the stock butterflys on the shelf or moving towards the trash.

If you block the throttles, can your idle air system control the idle?

alot of the guys on 60*v6 run a short* TB, or a N* TB, I've got a short* TB on the shelf here if you want it, pm me. I'd hate to see you go that route though...

I've got 6 TWM Induction throttle bodies for a 6 cylinder car, basically 3 TB's are linked per side. They're 48mm each. Considering they are worth more than your car I doubt you're interested, but let me know if you are. They also have injector bungs and fuel rails, and included are a pair of steel flanges.

If so, you're over the biggest hurdle to ITB tuning... getting good MAF and Idle
