Known mods yielding 0% gains
Thought I'd start a list after reading about a bogus chip in the tech section. What's obvious to some people, isn't to others.
1) Electric turbo chargers. They're bilge fans. They do absolutely nothing.
2) 'Tornado' type fans to put in your intake. Worthless. Use up intake volume and accomplish nothing else.
3) Oil additives (Slick 50 comes to mind). Waste of money. Goes out the tailpipe or into your drain pan. Some are actually corrosive.

4) Resistors added in line with the TPS, O2 sensor, intake air temperature sensor, coolant temp sensor, etc. They sell these on ebay claiming power increases of a few to a dozen hp. They just set off error codes or tweak the fueling or spark a bit in open loop until the computer compensates in closed loop once the motor warms up.

Re: Known mods yielding 0% gains
I recently saw a test on these, on a honduh or something. Gained 10hp. I wouldn't exactly call that nothing on something that makes 100hp any other day :pMNFatz wrote: 1) Electric turbo chargers. They're bilge fans. They do absolutely nothing.
My fiero is aliiiive!!
Yeah... Using 4 re-wound starter motors pulling a measely 250amps...
:blah5:
So tell me, is the 10hp enough to overcome the additional 150lbs of batteries and stiffening caps you'll need to spin it?

when they were doing top speed runs on the salt flats with the turbo quad 4 calais, they disconnected the tb coolant lines and gained 10 mph. Also, why wouldnt you remove these, they jus get in the way.Fierocious wrote:Bypassing the coolant lines going into the TB.

These are great.

It's not that they don't actually do anything; it's what they claim they do.
That, and if you buy from the right place, you get about 10 feet of 2/0 cable for $100.00.
You can get the same thing at a welding house for about $15.00.

Oh, I've seen it.
The guy rewound 4 starter motors to turn it, converted his electrical system to 24v and needed 4 extra batteries to not burn out his alternator and/or get more than about 2 seconds of boost.
He got something like 23hp.
It CAN be done...
Just not for less money than a REAL turbo/supercharger. And it makes less power.

Um, yeah. Bullshit. Probably took off his air filter or changed his skank ass plugs.
:thumbleft:
Anything less than 10% gain is suspect; you can get that from different fuel, ambient temp, ambient pressure etc etc etc.

Running the engine at 165 regardless of supporting mods is a bad idea.Mach10 wrote:-165º Thermostat on it's own
-Any kind of gimmick spark plug
-Multiple-spark (maybe helps emmissions, though?)
-Octane boost, or NOS-In-A-Bottle
Oil likes to be hotter.
ECM may not get into open loop mode.
Internal engine clearances are set up to be proper at 195+, not 165.
