Chris-Nelson wrote:The MSD fuel pump booster... sounds neat, but for 1/5th the price, I could make my own with a relay and $20 in cables/parts... But it WOULD look cool next to my 6AL box! :thumbleft:
I don't think the wife will go for it...
ummm no. This takes a 1/8 barb fitting and raises Fuel Pump Voltage with boost pressure. it doesnt just feed 14v to the pump... it will step up to 22volts @ 30psi...
From MSD:
Fuel Pump Booster
Adding a turbo or supercharger to your engine is a great way to improve the power of your car. But you have to remember that when more air is being pushed into the engine, the need for additional fuel raises proportionally. Meeting these new fuel demands could mean larger injectors or ECU programming, both which can be pricey. This new Fuel Pump Booster is the economical (and easy) answer for your engine’s new fuel demands.
The Booster will supply the electric fuel pump with increased voltage in relation to the manifold boost pressure. As boost pressure increases in the manifold, the MSD Booster will increase the voltage to the electric fuel pump. The amount of voltage is adjustable with a potentiometer from a range of an additional 1.5 volts to a maximum output of 22 volts over a range of 5 – 30 psia.

hmmm... seems kind of wasteful and unnecessary to raise it per boost level. Why not simply make a rewire kit and give it full 14.4v all the time? Or, if for some reason you would be worried about drawing too much power all the time, you could always wire in a boost pressure switch off of the manifold... I think that would be the best solution... But maybe I'm wrong. But one thing is for sure!
It looks pretty sweet!

A stock ECU isn't increasing injector pulse with boost pressure, so the gizmo increases fuel pressure with boost pressure to deliver extra fuel proportional to boost.Chris-Nelson wrote:hmmm... seems kind of wasteful and unnecessary to raise it per boost level. pardon my ignorance but wouldn't increasing voltage only increase fuel volume going to the fuel rail not pressure - the fuel pressure regulator hooked up to the vacuum/boost line would increase the pressure. The Dark Side of Will wrote:A stock ECU isn't increasing injector pulse with boost pressure, so the gizmo increases fuel pressure with boost pressure to deliver extra fuel proportional to boost.Chris-Nelson wrote:hmmm... seems kind of wasteful and unnecessary to raise it per boost level. seems that the voltage increase would be needed for things that the walbro could't put out enough volume at that higher pressure at the stock voltage.
