Re: 88 L36 swap

So I been driving this thing for the past week, works great haven't done anything other than replacing that pitted CV joint and broken axle seal. The whine is the AC compressor clutch assembly but it's steadily quietning up, maybe it's ready to seize LOL. Think I'll just buy a new AC compressor inst...

Re: Distributor Magnet upgrade? Really?

Seems like snake oil to me, of the 24 plus years and all the Fiero's that rolled through my shop they all worked fine with a stock distributer in good condition. I've seen them that the bushings worn out but never any issues with the magnets / pole piece. I've replaced lot's of ICM's and Pickup coil...

Re: Will the ICM and Pick Up work?

It's not plug and play, the 2.8 ICM has 2 pins in the back side that the pickup coil (PU ) plugs on to, also the PU on that 4.3 assembly isn't compatable with the Fiero distributer. I susposed one could cut and solder the Fiero pick up coil leads to the 4.3 ICM but that seems to be more work than it...

There's one called RX Super Chiller that the Caddy and Camaro guys use. Also Active Chiller is one I seen on the camaro forum.

Re: 88 L36 swap

Good to hear it's going well. I'm not sure I've heard of this duct It's one listed on Ryan's site, there's a few pics of it in his build photos. http://www.gmtuners.com/fiero/parts.htm Layed the iphone on a milk crate behind the car today, I'll be dammed if it doesn't sound like a V6 Fiero... I gue...

Re: 88 L36 swap

I guess it doesn't sound bad at all, it does kind of have that Fiero sound when idling. Wife took a quick video when I brought it home tonight, I'll take one starting and a few revs tomorrow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRkN7LsB1dU The cardboard is under the car because of the leaking axle seal- ...

Re: 88 L36 swap

Hey jelly, nice to see your swap comming along. It'll be nice to be able to use the back half of my shop after 2 years! When this car goes out I'm getting a dumpster in and filling it with a shit ton of Fiero junk, I'm only keeping 88 and fastback specific stuff as parts for my cars the rest can di...

Re: 86 v6 overheating with aftermarket fan

Backprobe the ECM pin to see if the ECM is turning the fan on. If the A/C turns the fan on, then everything else is tested. I've never owned a Fiero with a 2.8, but I saw there's a listing for a fan switch on Fiero Store. Does that switch work in parallel with the ECM? The Fiero fan switch is the g...

Why? Direct injection is a pretty much a self contained system on the engine. An electric fuel pump simply feeds gas to the engine where the DI system does it's thing similar to a diesel.

Re: I'm fixing my turd

You should do a LFX 3.6L. something like 323 HP stock, no need for exhaust manifolds so it will be great for packaging, all aluminum so less weight than the normal V6 swaps.. Trifecta Performance does tuning for that PCM. That motor or a variation of that motor is comming in a twin turbo configurati...

Re: 88 L36 swap

it can't be this easy.... No it's not. Looks like everyone puts the mufflers inlet on the top and outlets on the bottom. This is fine with a muffler that isn't ~12" tall when sitting how it would in a stock Fiero position. When I orientate the muffler in that fashion it hangs some 5 inch's bel...

Re: 88 L36 swap

Lowering the motor as far as I did has 1 drawback, the exhaust manifold outlet exits right behind the muffler if I leave that in the stock location. I'll have to drop the muffler about an inch because I added a flex pipe and a convertor. I might have one of the worlds shortest cataylitic converter n...

Re: 88 L36 swap

Muffler has been re-gutted and re-wrapped. It aint pretty but it should work, it's only temporary anyway, if it sounds decent and shit i'll build one from stainless and have someone competant weld it up. When my buddy was cutting the old tubes out with the plasma cutter the plates and dividers start...

Re: 88 L36 swap

I like the idea. I made my own muffler from scratch before, and while it worked, it was heavy, clunky, and wore out quickly. I also don't know how well it flowed. Increasing the size of a known good design seems like a good idea to me. I hear ya on the weight thing, but concern for weight was immed...

Re: 88 L36 swap

Build my own muffler..... hell why not? Anyone can buy everything to bolt in but then your just bolting shit together. I have access to a waterjet and a plasma table ( access meaning tell them what I want and get them to do the cutting) so what I will do is create some templates/plans/ whatever they...

Re: 88 L36 swap

Time to move to the exhaust system. I already plan on adding a cataylic convertor, I've sourced one thats 2.5" through and 4 inchs long. It is a bullet shape, I think I can shorten it if need be. I'm going to modify or more likely build a muffler from scratch following the stock design but allo...

I've got about 3 inchs from the manifold to the firewall. Front heatshield is like new, factory insulation is still good on the firewall, should be ok http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3935/sisv.jpg Rear heatshield however has seen better days, local dealer says it's discontinued, maybe a later sty...
