frist time fiero owner

Post by the-dude1 »

hi fiero freaks, i just picked up an 86 gt 4spd!! i have a lot in mind for this old beauty. as far as the engine goes im jumping between a lt1 350 or a built 3800sc? is it true that the 3800 sounds like crap, i have heard it time and time again. what do you 3800 owners think?

the sound of the 3800sc completely depends on your exhaust setup. most of the people that say that put v8's in their car for the sound not the performance (or so they claim after a 3800sc blows their doors off)

I think everything sounds like crap. Except maybe a 3.4 DOHC at 7000 rpm.

I'd be more partial to the LT1. The 3800 sounds like crap and has blower whine. But then the LT1 is heavy and slow.

Is there a third option?

Exactly. Picking an engine based on sound is ricey. Who cares what it sounds like if you are pulling buslengths on the guy.

I think you would be happier with a 3800 sc. The v8's in fieros don't perform as well as many would like to beleive.

Plus the aftermarket for the 3800 is huge!! Many Fieros with the 3800's are running 13's and 12's in the qtr mile. Several have even hit 11's with nothing but bolt ons.

I say go with the 3800 SC

Sound is nothing and yes its ricey to by a motor bassed on sound. Performance is why you swap.

Yeah, I never got the "sounds like crap" line. My L67 car sounded great, I thought, with a 3" exhaust through a Spintech. Initially it had no muffler and resonator tips, and that sounded very loud and was painful to drive long distances it was so drony, but I'd think a V8 through straight pipes would gety a little annoying at 2400 rpm for any extended period of time.

Fieros are meant to have V6's.

PS, Welcome to RFT.
My Fiero is now a Finale. The end.

My Northstar sounded pretty darn good through stock manifolds and straight pipes. It was loud, but did not drone at all. It wasn't fatiguing on long trips, either.

V8's just sound better than V6's, although there are some dam nice sounding 6's on the market today.

Might be...

But you'd better believe I'd never be caught dead in some Honda with a fart can.

Face it... you drive your shitty fiero because it looks good and can be made somewhat fast for cheap. If you cared about performance above all things (more than looks or sound), lets see you trade your fiero in for this:

Best of all - it's probably cheaper than a fiero.

In summary: Shut up, ricer. :la:
